Sheaves, also known as pulley sheaves or blocks, are crucial components of a boat’s rigging system. They are wheel-like devices with a grooved rim designed to guide and redirect ropes or cables, providing mechanical advantage and changing the direction of the ropes. 
Sheaves are typically made of materials such as wood, metal, or a combination of both, and are often incorporated into blocks to enhance their mechanical advantage.
